Approximately 50 vehicles have been smeared with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the Germany's town of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, as reported by authorities.
Automobiles, exterior walls and mailboxes were marked, sometimes with swastikas, they stated in a statement.
Law enforcement say they were notified late on Wednesday, when a resident observed that a vehicle in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been marked with a reddish fluid.
The fluid had been drawn in the form of a Nazi symbol, they added.
Police then located numerous other vandalized automobiles and residential walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
These symbols are banned in Germany under laws outlawing the public display of Nazi symbols.
Police say preliminary tests show the fluid was most likely human bodily fluid.
"There is still no clue as to its source; investigators are presently not cognizant of any harm in relation with the event," they added.
Municipal representatives said they were attempting "to solve the mystery" and have requested to the residents for details.
A high-ranking representative commented the attack made him stunned and required to be solved rapidly.
"This act hits the very heart of Hanau and reawakens the wounds of the right-wing terrorist attack five years ago," he posted on a platform, recalling the murder of nine individuals by a assailant focusing on individuals of immigrant origin in February 2020.
